Vaccination

I cannot in good conscience vaccinate my kittens for anything not required by law (rabies) . When a vaccine becomes available that carries no risk and it is proven to be truly beneficial, I will reconsider my position. Currently my philosophy is most similar to this information by Michelle Bernard. This is not exactly how I believe, but is similar enough to be able to link here instead of writing up my own developing philosophy.

Vaccinating your cat or kitten will not prevent disease and will not cure anything your cat or kitten already has. While Feline Distemper is perhaps the most deadly disease vaccinated for, almost all kittens are exposed to it and almost (if not all) diseases are only fatal if it develops in a kitten younger than the age vaccinations can be started! Some alternatives are to use nosodes. I might use these in lieu of vaccines, but currently follow the method of only treating if there is a symptom.

I will inform you if your kitten develops a condition requiring vet care and it will always be your choice to switch to another kitten or get a refund if your kitten does become sick while still living at my cattery. A certain level of trust is necessary between people in a breeder/ client relationship. Rest assured I care for all my kittens as if they are one of my own. As a college graduate who studied Pre-vet medicine and graduated with a degree in Biology and having lived with animals all my life, I do have expertise and experience outside of my years as a breeder.

As any living creature, cats and kittens will get sick. That is unavoidable. But I believe the natural immunity and strong , healthy queens, littermates, playmates as well as common sense exposure in a controlled environment is a better answer. I am not opposed to traditional medicine and work closely with vets to help manage the needs of my cats. Mostly my cats and kittens are in excellent health and it is not unusual for them to only be seen for altering before leaving for pet homes, microchipping (if requested and paid for by new owners) and health certificate for travel.
