Reasons I Spay/Neuter Early
First let me say I would never subject my cat to anything I feel is not best for him/ her. I use 2 different vets for my early spay/ neuters. One is a cat only vet who is very experienced in the procedure of spay/ neuter. The other is a vet who uses laser to perform her surgeries and so the swelling is kept to a minimum. I would not bring my kittens for surgery where a student is being trained or to a clinic that is more concerned on speed. I am NOT saying students don't need the practice OR that a quick surgeon is bad, it is just my preference to use very experienced vets perform this surgery on my tiny kittens.
Here are the reasons why I advocate early altering:
- Fast recovery time - I have had cats altered at various ages and the recovery of my young kittens is amazing. The males act like nothing ever happened and the females are up and playing by the end of the same day.
- No chance of hormone development - both female and male cats can spray/ mark. I look for homes that will be permanent for my cats and spraying is a BIG problem for the normal pet owner. I do not want my kitten to end up in a shelter because of that.
- No chance of breeding - I am PRO breeding, don't get me wrong. If you think you are interested in becoming a breeder, let me know ahead of time.
